I was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Lockbourne AFB, in 1956. 15 months later, my father, a B-47 pilot in the USAF Strategic Air Command was killed in a crash on a training mission. At that point, we moved to the Chicago area where I have lived ever since. I earned a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois College of Engineering in December, 1977. I've spent 20 of my 26 years working with Motorola's cellular infrastructure business. Along the way, I picked up an MBA and also an MS in Telecommunications from Illinois Institute of Technology and DePaul University, respectively. When not overwhelmed with family activities, I spend time managing auctions as a director of the American Society of Polar Philatelists, a group interested in mail to and from the polar regions. In the summer, I also pay a visit to Arlington Park, our local palatial thoroughbred horse facility, about once a week. Politically, I have been a late bloomer, only starting to get interested in the early 1990s. This is around the time I discovered the LP, and became a member in about 1994. I've become "active" politically only recently, starting to attend meetings and write letters to the editor in Fall, 2003. I went from zero to pretty active in a short period of time. I worked with several people to defeat 11 of 12 property tax increase referenda in my county in our March, 2004, primary election. Our efforts are documented at http://www.lp.org/lpnews/0405/volunteer1.html For the last six months, I've had a regular stream of letters to the editor in our local papers, getting one in each paper about every 30 days (they won't print them more often). I even got one into The Chicago Tribune a couple months ago. I've been attending meetings of local LP chapters, as well as school board meetings in my town, as I'm considering running for school board in April, 2005. I think it's critical that people of high school and college age take an interest (and better yet, action) in politics and libertarianism, and I'm glad to see a group like the LFC take up this charge. It's today's young people that will inherit the mess that's currently being built if something isn't done to reverse the growth of government and its intrusion into our lives.
