I became a philosophical libertarian late in high school and joined the Libertarian Party for the first time in 1998. I ended up letting my membership lapse, but continued to vote for LP candidates from then on.

In 2004, I helped found and served as vice president and later president of the Libertarians at Virginia Tech. Over the course of our first semester, we became the most active political group on the campus and dominated the debate in the school newspaper with two columnists (myself being one of them).

In November 2004, shortly after election day, I was elected chair of the Libertarian Party of Fairfax County, VA. Since then, we have become one of the most active local affiliates in the Commonwealth of Virginia and I want to lend my efforts to a more broad reform of the party itself.

Thank you,

Tony Torres
